After a full day of shooting the various festivals around town yesterday in the constantly changing weather. I arrived home to my wiggling Wheaten who was desperate for a walk. Normally he accompanies me but with so many festivals involving hundreds of people, horses and umbrellas, I opted for him to stay home and rest.
Out the door we went in a race with the weather. The early evening light was illuminating the golden wheat on it’s track towards the Earth. It’s last rays hitting the hills in the distance intensified by the water droplets in the cooling air.
On the road home once more, Clover and I step to the right of the road to prepare for a large group of cyclist heading out of town towards us. In such a joyous manner they rode. It was then I realized they all seemed to be in similar clothing….squinting my eyes to try and make out their details, I squatted down to get into position for shooting.
“NOOOOOOO”, came the first giggling voice of embarrassment. Then thunderous laughter from the rest of the group. It was then I realized…approaching us was a group of adults…dressed to resemble strawberries! Red blouses were highlighted by a collar of rich green felt to simulate the green caps on the fruit of the strawberry. They seemed hilariously shy about the whole adventure and I was speechless. Each day here in this town seems to bring this artist an endless supply of subject matter to fuel my inspiration.
As they past, Clover and I glanced at each other and I yelled in a questioning voice to the bulk of the riders….”Erdbeeren”, German for strawberry. In a laughing unanimous voice they replied. “JA!”
