Come Wander Along with Me...

I wander...it is simply what I do.  Since I was a young girl, my parent's tried everything to keep me close to home, going to such  measures as to buy me goats.  Though I loved my goats, my heart still  wandered.

Growing up in rural New Jersey, I was surrounded by dense woods and long stretches of farm land to fuel my imagination.   I felt at home in the arms of the forest and spent many days laying upon the fragrant mossy soil staring up through the filter of leaves... watching the light dance.  It is these experiences that I work to remember.

In adulthood, I discovered the joy of capturing those precious moments, through my camera's lens.  Though the many years in between my youth and the present, I have enjoyed many wonderful adventures and am currently wandering in another people's land.  For the past 10 years I have had the pleasure of living in Europe and learning to look at life in a very different way.

Through my images and my wanderings, I hope you will enjoy seeing the world around you... in a new way.

So...I invite you to "Come Wander Along with Me..."

The Cookie Man of Ladenburg

Clover-and-the-cookie-man-layout

They all know him and drag their poor owners along the walk to get to this older gentleman who sits on a bench in town.  He is known as the cookie man to all canines of Ladenburg.

When I first moved to this village, he shared his bench with friends and a VERY large German Shepard who use to sleep in the shadow the bench created.  Sadly about a year into our time here….the shadow remained but the Shepard was gone.  I was so sad to see this man loose his companion.

Then one day, I started to notice, one by one all the dogs stopping to visit a while at the bench.  Of course Clover, my dog, figured out this game immediately.  He use to avoid the bench in great fear of the Shepard….and later the shadow.   It makes me happy to know that he may have lost his own dog, but instead of becoming bitter and angry about his personal loss he has chosen to make all the dogs of the town his.  Hence gaining the title “The Cookie Man of Ladenburg”.

July 6, 2009 - 06:19 Ben - And now Clover is no longer afraid of the shadow. Maybe he is the cookie therapist?

July 6, 2009 - 08:20 vidu - Too sweet...

July 8, 2009 - 15:51 Vixen_power - Gotta say, ur talented! All ur wonderful pics have an interesting story behind them. Love love Love ur work!!!! Could he be the cookie monster in disguise :-)

July 8, 2009 - 23:46 Phil Vaughn - Some (very smart) dogs just know who needs a little extra love, and they aren't afraid to give it without boundaries. To get a cookie only makes it all the better for both the dog and his friend. Way to go, Clover! I hope the Cookie Man finds some solace and enjoyment in the company of Clover--and all the other little visitors that find their way to him. Great slice-of-life story, Laura!

July 9, 2009 - 05:09 Michael Van der Tol - Great story & images. I suspect my pup would like to join the cookie club too. :-)

July 9, 2009 - 20:48 piya - This is very, VERY sweet!
