Come Wander Along with Me...

I wander...it is simply what I do.  Since I was a young girl, my parent's tried everything to keep me close to home, going to such  measures as to buy me goats.  Though I loved my goats, my heart still  wandered.

Growing up in rural New Jersey, I was surrounded by dense woods and long stretches of farm land to fuel my imagination.   I felt at home in the arms of the forest and spent many days laying upon the fragrant mossy soil staring up through the filter of leaves... watching the light dance.  It is these experiences that I work to remember.

In adulthood, I discovered the joy of capturing those precious moments, through my camera's lens.  Though the many years in between my youth and the present, I have enjoyed many wonderful adventures and am currently wandering in another people's land.  For the past 10 years I have had the pleasure of living in Europe and learning to look at life in a very different way.

Through my images and my wanderings, I hope you will enjoy seeing the world around you... in a new way.

So...I invite you to "Come Wander Along with Me..."

Honorary Family Membership

family-reunion5sigsmIt’s funny how things in life turn out. Some call it a coincidence…I like to think of these twists of fate as happy accidents.
While on my trip to West Virginia to visit my parents, I was pleased to discover that two friends from my Ringling School of Art days were going to be at a family reunion just a few towns away. They were kind enough to make the drive out to pick me up so I could spend the day with them. I come from a small family so these huge West Virginia Family reunions are always awe inspiring to me.

The tent was on the lawn and the chairs waiting to be filled. There she sat, the Matriarch…the birthday girl… 90 year old Grandma Herrick surrounded by those she loves, wearing a face of pure pride. I felt honored to be given a place at her side and to bare witness to this amazing event. Turning 90 is one thing, but to be so treasured by such an extensive family and to be able to bring them all together is another feat that deserves recognition in itself.

One by one, cars would arrive spilling forth their precious cargo. Grandchildren, some Great Grand Children, sons, daughters, all waiting to be engulfed in waiting arms.

Everything was organized right down to the collection of plastic “To Go” cups each individually decorated for easy recognition. Each person bringing something special to the table besides their presence. Brat wurst from the Pennsylvania Dutch farms, baskets of ripening peaches…home brewed beer waiting to be shared.

What an honor it was to be an honorary Herrick for the day….I even got a cup with my name on it.
