Come Wander Along with Me...

I wander...it is simply what I do.  Since I was a young girl, my parent's tried everything to keep me close to home, going to such  measures as to buy me goats.  Though I loved my goats, my heart still  wandered.

Growing up in rural New Jersey, I was surrounded by dense woods and long stretches of farm land to fuel my imagination.   I felt at home in the arms of the forest and spent many days laying upon the fragrant mossy soil staring up through the filter of leaves... watching the light dance.  It is these experiences that I work to remember.

In adulthood, I discovered the joy of capturing those precious moments, through my camera's lens.  Though the many years in between my youth and the present, I have enjoyed many wonderful adventures and am currently wandering in another people's land.  For the past 10 years I have had the pleasure of living in Europe and learning to look at life in a very different way.

Through my images and my wanderings, I hope you will enjoy seeing the world around you... in a new way.

So...I invite you to "Come Wander Along with Me..."

A Christmas Eve Visitor…a Simple Gesture

This past Christmas Eve, my husband, dog and I all took a long walk through the National Forest here in the Heidelberg area.  Nearing the end of our walk, I noticed my husband lift his hand towards the sky.  I found it an interesting gesture especially so as he was holding the dogs leash with the other hand.

Suddenly I saw a large blue colored bird flit down and land in his hand.  The whole thing happened so fast and I was so perplexed by the action that I never even lifted my camera.  Of course I was a twitter with excitement as well as the dog that I thought the bird would just fly away.

There he sat, just a bit out of reach in a bush so my husband handed me a dog treat to see if he would repeat his visit.  Instantly this large, and rather heavy bird I might add, landed in my hand.  Fearing I would chase him off, I slowly and carefully lifted the camera with my free arm and started to shoot.  He really seemed to enjoy the attention.

He stayed with us till the dog cookies ran out which was but a few minutes but that moment will stay with us forever.  His simple visit lifted our hearts and made for one of the best Christmas gifts we received this year.

I now carry a few suet and bird seed balls in one of my many pockets in my coat to hang about the forest when I am out on my walks…just to return the kind gesture.

January 14, 2010 - 11:46 Maureen Jochetz - Jim is taming a mockingbird by bribing it with the applecore. He eats his apple outside on most days and noticed a mockingbird hanging around. When he goes outside without his apple, the mockingbird becomes quite indignant. I am jealous of both of you. I have quite a "Snow White" complex and wish little birds would come land on me. :0)

January 21, 2010 - 22:57 Phil Vaughn - This is really touching--one of those special amazing moments of "connection." I think I'm a little jealous, too!

February 21, 2010 - 06:31 piya - This is so sweet! Birds visiting us humans fels like such a blessing...I really liked the picture that has the little bird cocking its head to one side, as if studying the human being :)
