Come Wander Along with Me...

I wander...it is simply what I do.  Since I was a young girl, my parent's tried everything to keep me close to home, going to such  measures as to buy me goats.  Though I loved my goats, my heart still  wandered.

Growing up in rural New Jersey, I was surrounded by dense woods and long stretches of farm land to fuel my imagination.   I felt at home in the arms of the forest and spent many days laying upon the fragrant mossy soil staring up through the filter of leaves... watching the light dance.  It is these experiences that I work to remember.

In adulthood, I discovered the joy of capturing those precious moments, through my camera's lens.  Though the many years in between my youth and the present, I have enjoyed many wonderful adventures and am currently wandering in another people's land.  For the past 10 years I have had the pleasure of living in Europe and learning to look at life in a very different way.

Through my images and my wanderings, I hope you will enjoy seeing the world around you... in a new way.

So...I invite you to "Come Wander Along with Me..."

Preparing for Archer…Capturing the Past…

Last weekend I had the honor of being asked to share some of my favorite, wet plate accessible, locations in the Mannheim/Heidelberg area with Quinn Jacobson of Studio Q.

It was a fantastic learning experience for me and I now know for me to continue working with this process I definitely need a dark box or mobile darkroom.  It also showed me in greater detail the limitations this process creates…I have started my list of accessible locations and also my mind is spinning as to how to make getting the dark box to certain locations possible.  Very exciting.

Seeing these beautiful ruins captured in this Historic Technique was breathtaking.  These images Quinn captured on this day will be exhibited in London at the Frederick Scott Archer Ceremony

Please take a moment to view the small slideshow of images from the day and also take some time to look through Quinn’s amazing site and his many on going projects.

April 10, 2010 - 00:42 Fred - Sh*t ! That's huge ! Cool shot, Laura.

April 20, 2010 - 14:58 Phil Vaughn - People like Quinn Jacobson and, of course, Erick and Laura Boston Thek are made of different stuff than most photographer (like me). The ease and quickness of modern digital imaging tends to allow an element of speediness that can threaten planning and deliberation. Thinking about these older methods of photography can help us slow down and immerse ourselves in a scene before we shoot. I, for one, can stand to remember to do that.
