Come Wander Along with Me...

I wander...it is simply what I do.  Since I was a young girl, my parent's tried everything to keep me close to home, going to such  measures as to buy me goats.  Though I loved my goats, my heart still  wandered.

Growing up in rural New Jersey, I was surrounded by dense woods and long stretches of farm land to fuel my imagination.   I felt at home in the arms of the forest and spent many days laying upon the fragrant mossy soil staring up through the filter of leaves... watching the light dance.  It is these experiences that I work to remember.

In adulthood, I discovered the joy of capturing those precious moments, through my camera's lens.  Though the many years in between my youth and the present, I have enjoyed many wonderful adventures and am currently wandering in another people's land.  For the past 10 years I have had the pleasure of living in Europe and learning to look at life in a very different way.

Through my images and my wanderings, I hope you will enjoy seeing the world around you... in a new way.

So...I invite you to "Come Wander Along with Me..."

Ambrotype Portrait…Back in Uniform

Yesterday a good friend of ours came in on a short break from serving in Afghanistan and it was incredibly kind of him to get back in his uniform to sit for me.

This is the second Ambrotype portrait I have done and with each I learn a bit more. Not only about the process but about what to expect from my models. It certainly is not easy to hold a position or an expression for many long seconds or to have to wait while the photographer prepares the plates and exposes many until finding success.

So far I have been lucky with patient people…now I have to learn an ounce or two more. My husband’s evil plan of slowing down this Jersey girl by tempting her deeper into these Alternative process….I HOPE, will be a success.

April 25, 2010 - 07:49 Billy Howard - This is an incredible portrait. Your use of an old process has created a revealing look into the raw emotions of war.

April 25, 2010 - 12:30 Karen Zimmerman - Wow, this is such a time machine! I hope your husband's evil plan works, too! Then we get to see many more like this! :-)

April 25, 2010 - 18:07 Phil Vaughn - Laura, this is such a fitting portrait for your friend seeing that he is a soldier. It reminds me of photographs of Union and Confederate soldiers in the Civil War. His eyes tell quite a story. Thanks for sharing this.
