While walking in the ancient Provencal town of Avignon I found this precious note affixed to a wall. It reads simply and sweetly : ” Hello…I lost my heart along this road, if you have any idea of how to find it please write me”.
I was so moved by the beautiful sentiment behind this simple note. I am sure the author would appreciate any suggestions you might be willing to send.

Cooking has become an incredibly important part of my day. Every year I learn more and more just how important food is to the care and maintenance of our bodies. For me, the preparation of meals has become so much more than just nutrition but another art form…a meditation. While cooking I find my mind is focusing on the people who have opened their hearts and their kitchens to me over the years and shared with me their knowledge and passions for cooking. One such person, is my late friend and mentor Peggy Kmeck whose light was taken from this world far too soon. Peggy taught me a lot about life, but most importantly she shared with me her passion for cooking amazingly delicious meals for others. While eating one of her meals…you couldn’t help but taste the love in each morsel.
Since her passing, I find I almost channel her when in the kitchen as a way of paying tribute to all she shared with me.

Another such person was my husbands Czech Pol Grandmother. She was great example of how food is love. If you visited my husband’s family you always went home with a loaf or two of fresh baked Babka…steaming hot and straight from the oven. When I married my husband she taught me his favorite recipe for Pierogi. filled with Farmers Cheese. They were incredible…like little pockets of happiness. Gram has recently left us, but yesterday in her honor I dusted off that old recipe and let her legacy live on. These pierogi were adapted to be Gluten Free Cooking. and Dairy Free Cooking., which was easily done by using a GF white flour blend which you can buy in any health food store and I filled them with a potato and red onion mixture instead of the cheese. The pastry itself calls for sour cream which I substituted with Oatly Oat Cream.. They are served with fried onions and sour cream which can be replaced with a Soy Sour Cream.

I hope you will get into your kitchen and whip up some Love.

While on our daily walk today through the local vineyards in Schriesheim, my dog Clover and I were seduced to pick heaping juicy handfuls of blackberries. The bushes they were growing on were so abundant with fruit that they were draped and hanging heavy over the fence they were growing on. I live by a simple philosophy when it comes to foraging….”What’s on the outside of a fenced in area…is considered fair game”. Luckily these beauties were doing just that…and there was so much fruit it was going to rot on the ground…Clover of course took his share. I believe he will have a berry belly ache later…but I think he would agree with me that it was so worth it, stained hands and sour bellies and all.

While having dinner the other night with friends, old and new, I mentioned I was a Photographer. At that statement someone at the end of the table asked for a card…they had two friends in a desperate situation. Their friends, a newly engaged couple had only two more days before they would be once again separated by the great big Atlantic ocean. “Do you think you could possibly take their Engagement photos?”

Once again the planets aligned and though I had never met the couple before the session I found out that the location I chose for them was perfect. I had them meet me high on a vineyard covered hill and drag along some glasses and a bottle of wine. Not know before that the middle name of the young woman’s middle name is Margaux…her father is a wine enthusiast.

So I think that is enough chatter and background….here it is, Boston Thek Imagery’s first Engagement Shoot. I believe all parties really enjoyed themselves…I may just take on a few more of these kinds of shoots. The love and energy is infectious.

Many of our favorites were represented. We especially enjoyed the fact that you could purchase a “ProBIERGlas” or a trial glass for only 3,50 euro and wander stand to stand tasting each brew for only 1,50 euro. Great way to taste the day away with out getting too severely inebriated.

So today Clover my dog and I dropped in for a few minutes to see if we could catch a photo or two of the Obama’s as they toured the races…we were lucky enough to get pretty close to the red carpet as they had a rather young security detail.
So much has been happening I have had a hard time finding a way to jump back into the tide. In 2010 and the beginning of 2011, Boston Thek Imagery had the pleasure of showing our work at 4 separate exhibitions and I have to admit the whole process, though inspiring, left me a bit tired.
Preparing for the exhibitions kept me away from my beloved country side as well as discovering new lands. For the past few months I have worked hard to get out there and feed my wandering soul once more.
Where did our wanders take us you ask, New Jersey, New York City, West Virginia, Provence, Strasbourg, I am sure many many more places. We had a few more wonderful guests and did our first engagement shoot.
With all that to catch you back up on…I better just get busy, but before I go…I will leave you with some of the faces that passed by my lens these past few months.
